Thumbs.db
The hidden per-folder thumbnail cache of Windows 98 to XP, still created by modern Windows on network shares.
Thumbs.db is a hidden OLE compound file that Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP
created in folders displayed as thumbnails. It holds one stream per thumbnail
and, on those versions, a Catalog stream listing each original file name with
its last-modified time. Windows Vista and later use the central thumbcache for
local folders but still write Thumbs.db on network shares by default.
Thumbs.db keeps thumbnails of deleted files and travels with folders copied to
other media.
